Michael Trekur Trekur, Michael (American, active c. 1935) painters (artists) 1935 - 1943 1935 1943 Queen Anne Walnut Side Chair - Made in New England about 1735-45. Furniture in this style appeared earliest in the New England colonies and developed there along lines that make it readily distinguishable from Pennsylvania Queen Anne pieces. There is a certain primness about the chairs, which never relaxed into the graceful curves or acquired the elegant volutes of those made in Pennsylvania. Earlier examples had square seats; later, as here, we frequently find pear or horseshoe-shaped seats with rounded corners. The stiles of the backs with their vase splats preserved an almost rectangular outline, and turned stretchers were the rule, whereas in Pennsylvania they were the exception. This chair has the usual yoke on the cresting rail and Dutch feet with pads. Watercolor by Michael Trekur.
