Historical/Biographical Note

Frank Carrado was born in 1930 and raised on 10th Street, Long Island City to an American-Italian family. He worked in the trucking industry and is a Korean War Veteran. About a decade ago, Frank realized his neighborhood was drastically changing and watched the old, industrial neighborhood demolished, replaced by new buildings. In 2005, Frank’s daughter gifted him a digital camera, allowing him to document his home; streets, shops, and factories. Frank Carrado is the unofficial mayor of Long Island City, documenting the old and new LIC.
