The Borough President of Queens Photographs (1,915 photographs, 1780-1958, bulk 1900-1958) provide excellent documentation of how New York City’s citizens transformed this borough from a sleepy burgh to a bustling borough of homes. The photographs document Queens’ commercial and residential development; major events including the aftermath of storms; landmarks including historic homes, government buildings and bridges; apartment buildings and houses; street and sidewalk construction and renovation; and more in the form of prints and duplicate (not original) negatives in a variety of sizes. Every neighborhood in Queens is documented and no one neighborhood stands out.
