This collection contains approximately 140 documents, dated principally in the 1880s and 1890s all of which with some minor exceptions, being bills submitted by various dealers from whom Mr. Smith purchased various supplies. Most are receipted. Quite a few such dealers or companies are represented, among some of the most common being E. Bailey and Son of Patchogue; the South Brooklyn Saw Mill Co.; the Salem Nail Co. of New York; and Henry Bo Newhall of New York. These were dealers in such commodities as lumber, copper, metal and tools. Occasionally one finds a few business letters, usually quoting prices of merchandise, occasionally a letter or two making mention of the building of a boat. The business bills range in date from 1880 – 1897 and undated.
