The documents in this very small collection (ca.40 items) deal with various such taxes. Evidently, these documents were gathered together as a unit only because in some way they represented the town of Newtown.. They are dated ca. 1864-l884 with the majority in the 1870s. They are rail tax bills, many of them for school purposes, and were submitted to a number of individuals. Most of them appear to have been receipted by the collector of taxes for having received said taxes. They are virtually all bills submitted to residents of Maspeth within the township of Newtown. Some documents bear the name, Columbusville which was the former name of Maspeth, and perhaps there are two or three documents with the name Winfield, and a few more with no special designation within the Town of Newtown.
