Hillcrest Citizens for Neighborhood Preservation Records

The Hillcrest Citizens for Neighborhood Preservation Records (1 box, 2003-2008) highlight the efforts of Hillcrest residents to block the construction of a high school in their community. Hillcrest is a small residential area located between Flushing and Jamaica in the borough of Queens. Despite its geographically small size the community of Hillcrest is the location for both St. John’s University and Queens Medical Center. The Hillcrest Citizens for Neighborhood Preservation was formed after the city informed the community of the creation of a high school in the area. Fearing an increase in traffic the Hillcrest residents were against the building of the school solely for the problem of congestion.
